Local Kids Empty Piggy Banks for Food Pantry

Ipswich, MA December 10, 2008 - On a very cold afternoon, River and Summer Smith of Ipswich demonstrated the true meaning of the holidays. Both children emptied their piggy banks and brought their savings to Windhill Realty to help out Ipswich Caring and the food pantry. The children’s mother Tanya Smith explained there are families here in town who are less fortunate than their family and who are struggling to put food on their table and gifts under their tree.  Windhill owner Shawn Cayer and Real Estate Advisor Jane Desrochers were there to greet the Smith family. “What a great learning experience for the kids to see all the items already donated and understanding the concept of giving,” said Desrochers. Shawn Cayer’s 6 year old Margaux is a Summer’s schoolmate and was so impressed with her donation that she went and gave some gift cards she recently received for her birthday to her dad to donate. “I was so proud of my daughter,” said Cayer. “I guess it just goes to show how contagious a good deed can be” added Shawn.  As a learning experience, Tanya Smith was glad to have her kids visit the gift tree and food box first hand to teach such a valuable lesson. According to Cayer, the turnout for the food pantry donations has been wonderful. Windhill plans a delivery to the food pantry on December 18th. Come by with donations, all non-perishable, by 12/18 to make it in time for the Christmas delivery. 55 Market St., corner of Market and Depot Square.  To read the full article, click here!
