The Numbers Don't Lie!

I just ran our market share report this morning and WOW!!  Windhill is the top producing Ipswich Real Estate office doing more business here in town than anyone! We were in the lead back in June and it looks like we just might close out 2010 on top!

2010 has turned out to be a banner year for Team Windhill! We moved into our new home, The Windhill Building at 16 Market Street and over 200 people joined us in celebration. We've welcomed some new fantastic members to our team. We were recognized by NSAR and awarded the Community Service Award  (really, the proverbial icing on the cake for me). History Smiths recognized our commitment to Ipswich's historic character.  And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I looked at this report today.

We must be doing something right! You're looking at an undoctored screen shot peeled directly off our Multiple Listing Service. The numbers don't lie! Thank you Ipswich community for your trust! Congratulations to team Windhill and to our competitors! Well done!  Now, let's see if we can hold on to position #1 until year end! (a little healthy competition never hurt!) Stay tuned!

You Can Help!

Last year we had a big delivery from the Winthrop school kids!

Windhill Realty is on a mission again this year and you can help! Visit us at our new location, 16 Market Street, downtown Ipswich and donate non-perishable food items (not past expiration date) for the Ipswich Food Pantry. Pantry hours are very limited so we serve as a drop-off location Monday through Saturday during business hours.   We will be collecting on behalf of the food pantry for the remainder of 2010. We are also taking donations of warm adult size clothing for Action, Inc. an emergency homeless shelter in Gloucester.  For more information call 978-356-8922 or email jmeuse@windhillrealty.com.

Windhill Steps Up for Local History.

Bonnie Hurd Smith, CEO of HistorySmiths recently wrote an article and published it on her website, HistorySmiths.com. Read the full article. Here's what she had to say about Windhill Realty and Shawn Cayer, the owner:

My second story takes place in Ipswich, Massachusetts, and although the business involved has not been around for 30 years as Biff Michaud's has, their recent actions ensure the stability of historical resources that are well over 30 years old and will last for another 130. I am talking about Windhill Realty, and Shawn Cayer, who recently received the prestigious annual Community Service Award from the North Shore Association of Realtors.

To be honest, I am not aware of everything Windhill does in their community, but knowing Shawn, it's considerable. The history-related project I want to call attention to is the "Old Ipswich News Building" on Market Street in the heart of downtown Ipswich.

A couple of years ago, this small wooden building was decimated by fire.  What would happen to what was left of it? Everyone in town was concerned. Arguing ensued, followed by a demolition delay, lots of angst, opinions, and letters to the editor of the local paper. Finally, Shawn Cayer bought the building after securing the assistance of his colleague Mat Cummings, the Ipswich architect who specializes in preserving and renovating old houses. With backing from The First National Bank of Ipswich, Shawn and Mat transformed a blighted hole in downtown Ipswich into a jewel of an office building that looks like it's been there since 1840. Truly.

Shawn could have done pretty much anything he wanted to with the building because Ipswich, unfortunately, has very few restrictions and no historic district. Shawn could also have hired a less reputable and accomplished architect. Instead, every one of his decisions ensured that this building would help preserve the historic character of Ipswich's Market Street. What a wonderful steward! And by the way? Windhill Realty's offices are now housed there, so you can go inside and see for yourself what Shawn and Mat achieved - and what will still be there for many years to come.

Well, done, gentlemen!

Windhill Mom Shows her Gratitude to the Y.

When Jane McNally, Financial Development Associate for the YMCA of the North Shore asked me to tell my story for her newsletter I quickly agreed. "Sure," I said. "It will be easy to share how I feel about this place," I thought to myself.

Jane and I met at the Ipswich Y and sat across from each other at one of the tables amidst the campers and members milling around us as if we were invisible. Jane's kind eyes stayed focused on me as she listened intently to what I had to say. Turns out, I was able to summarize it all at the end. The words just fell out of my mouth when I said, "The Y has made me a better mother." I knew I was grateful but at that moment, when I heard myself say those words out loud, it was a revelation for me just how crucial it is to have such a community resource.   See the newsletter article below!

A few weeks later, I got an email from Jane saying, "You probably thought you had seen the last of me!"  She then went on to tell me she was working on filming a video to help raise money for camperships. How could I say no? "Sure I'll do it, It will be easy to tell my story again," I thought to myself. Well, telling my story in front of a camera was not as easy as I thought it would be. Jane's kind eyes were much easier to talk to than the camera!  Watch the video here.

My story isn't unique or special in any way. It's the story of many. We are fortunate to have organizations like the Y and even more fortunate to have people, people who genuinely care and are motivated to take action and do something to help others. And while I have you, let me sing for one of the unsung heros, the "face I will never forget," Suzanne Hilyard is one of THOSE people. There are so many like Suzanne and Jane at the Y's on the North Shore. THEY make the difference. Otherwise the Y would be just another gym, instead of the community hub, kid central, parent oasis, supportive resource that it is. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
