Thanks for Supporting the Ipswich Food Pantry!

This had to be our best year ever! Last week Shawn, Margaux and Toni boxed up the food and loaded up the truck. Lynne Gibbs met us over at the food pantry to let us in so she could get to work stocking the shelves. This is one of our favorite things about being a downtown business here in Ipswich! We look forward to rallying our own team along with the community and helping out those in need. Thanks everyone! Here are some  photos from delivery day!

And you thought 1031 Exchanges Were Just for Real Estate!

Edmund & Wheeler, Inc. is synonomous with 1031 Exchanges. You might not find this as fascinating as I did, but here's a 1031 exchange I've never heard of or even thought possible.

"The Molitor Stradivari" is a violin that was handcrafted in 1697 by Antonio Stradivari and was recently sold for $3.6M making it the most expensive instrument EVER sold at auction. The name "Stradivarius" has become a superlative often associated with excellence; to be called "the Stradivari" of any field is to be deemed the finest there is. The seller of the violin utilized Section 1031, and Edmund & Wheeler, Inc. to defer his sizeable capital gains on the sale!

Read the full story and hear the violin being played by its new owner! Truly amazing!

Warm Hearts in Ipswich, MA - AGAIN!

We had a visit from the Winthrop Preschool on Friday. The kids, all bundled up, hiked on foot, food pantry items in hand. They paraded in and each placed their item into the donation box. We were thrilled!  Special thanks to the teachers for taking the initiative, bringing the kids down and showing them first hand what the season of giving is really about. Every year we collect on behalf of the Ipswich Food Pantry and it's truly a joy for us when we get to see the kids.

Click here to see last year's visitors.

We are planning a our biggest delivery ever to the pantry this Wednesday, December 15th  at 3:00pm. This will ensure it gets into the hands of those who need it in time for Christmas. So come on by if you'd like to donate either non perishable food items or checks made out to Ipswich Food Pantry. We are also doing our annual delivery to Action, Inc. a homeless shelter in Gloucester for adults. If you have any coats or warm weather clothing items, bring those by this Wednesday the 15th as well.

That's what it's ALL about folks.  Now if that doesn't get you into the spirit...

Local Business Spotlight! Meet Shari Wagner, owner of The Playful Pack

We know there are a lot of passionate pet owners on the North Shore. We also know how important it is to find good quality care for your pet. The Playful Pack provides exactly that with some unique amenities! Shari says there's nothing like it on the North Shore! I believe it! Check out their website! See their cool LIVE WEB CAM and DOG TAXI!

I asked Shari how she got started.  "In late 2008, with so many other people, I was laid off.  But I was actually quite relieved when it happened.  I'd been tossing around the idea of opening a dog daycare center for some time, and this was just the nudge I needed to leave the comfort and security of my 20 year career as a software engineer. Switching from software development to dog daycare may seem like quite a leap, but it was actually just a return to where I came from.  My mother was a dog trainer and breeder of Champion Dobermans, and throughout high school I worked as a full-time farm hand on our family farm.  I'd been planning the 'ultimate' dog daycare center in my head, and I knew my engineering skills would make it all possible."

What makes The Playful Pack unique?  The Playful Pack is a 4,000 square-foot, free-range facility featuring clean, turf-covered yards, climate-controlled indoor play areas, and webcams providing 24/7 LIVE coverage of every play area.  Dogs have access to the indoor and outdoor play areas at all times via doggy door, and owners can check-in on their best friends at any time.  There's nothing like it on the North Shore.

It was designed specifically for dogs that are friendly and social enough to enjoy the freedom of group play, but it's also a great teaching tool for young dogs or dogs that need help in those areas.  Guests are grouped with compatible playmates and closely monitored by caring staff who ensure they get the attention, exercise and rest they need in a safe and comfortable environment.

Drop by for a tour today and... Let the fun begin!

Who Cares About Community?

Sonia Johnson does! Meet the Director of Foster Care for the Ipswich Humane Group! Sonia tells us how she got started and how she helps.

I have been volunteering with the Ipswich Humane Group (IHG) since 1997.  I replied to an ad in the paper that was looking for someone to help socialize cats at the Ipswich Pound.  Being new to town at the time and having two small children at school during the day I was looking for something to help occupy my time.  I went into the shelter 4 days a week for about an hour a day for many, many weeks playing with all the cats there.  It was so rewarding having cats that were very feral and unfriendly get excited when I would come to see them.  One of my neighbors around that same time took kittens into her home, because at that time the animal control officer didn't like having the kittens at the shelter because no one was really there during the day and it was much smaller then.  She asked me to help her one weekend while she was away and I haven't stopped since.  Several years ago the IHG invited me to be the Director of Foster Care.  As Director I am in charge of locating temporary foster care homes for kittens, cats and dogs that need to be cared for temporarily or until space frees up at the shelter.  These volunteers are reimbursed for their expenses while caring for the animals and the animals are given more one-on-one attention.  It's a win win situation for everyone.  The only drawback is that it's hard not to fall in love! Over the years I have lost many foster care home providers due to them adopting the foster babies that they've been caring for, so we are always looking for foster care homes. So please let me know if you yourself or anyone you know might be interested in being a foster care provider. I can be reached at
