How does someone go from Manhatten and Bohemian Greenwich Village to Goddard College in rural Vermont to Williamstown, Massachusetts to lil' old Ipswich, MA?
That's Betty in a nutshell...she takes the long way around and makes sure she enjoys the ride!
Speaking of the long way, Betty's been there! She lived in Paris, visited Spain, Poland, Portugal, Isreal, Czechoslovakia and that's just to name a few! Thinking about travel? Ask Betty, she'll share her experiences with you and give you some great tips!
Betty would have been a lawyer, like her dad, had she not met her husband Barton and started a family when she did. She applied to and was accepted into law school when her life took a turn of the domestic kind. Had her path gone legal, I'm certain she would now be a high-profile attorney slash politician who's face and name we would all recognize, rounding out her career by serving on the United States Supreme Court.
But Betty chose real estate and I'm glad she did! Hearing her attorney-dad's violin wasn't the only music to Betty's ears. Negotiating was his other language and it's one of the things Betty picked up on at a very early age. Ask Betty what she loves about real estate and she will tell you, "It's exciting to meet new people! The work is hard but rewarding and I love negotiating!"
During her stay in Williamstown, MA, Betty earned her Masters of Science in Public Administration while she was the director of the Williamstown Housing Authority for ten years. She helped build elderly housing and administered a Section 8 housing program for families and the handicapped. That experience that inspired her and propelled her to want to make a difference.
We love having Betty on our team just as much as Betty loves negotiating! Betty brings her strong opinions and passion for being involved in decision making. Betty currently serves as the Chair of the North Shore Association of REALTORS® Government Affairs Committee, 3 years running, and as the Secretary to the board of the North Shore Association of REALTORS®.
Betty recently spoke during a legal panel discussion before a packed house, encouraging folks, leading them to let their voice be heard at the State House.
"Going to the Statehouse is an experience everyone should have."
Betty received the "Shining Star Award," presented to the REALTOR® who demonstrates outstanding committee service and works diligently behind the scenes for the betterment of the members and the Association. We were so proud to support Betty that night. Read the full story here.
Betty and Barton have three grown daughters and five grandchildren who they frequently visit in New York, Florida and Vermont. The Caring Comminty group is a constant in Betty's life through her Temple. Betty frequents the opera and theatre, still has the travel bug yet lives and breaths real estate all the while.
